Full Name: Attila Cornelius Zoller

Born on June 13th, 1927 at Visegrád, Ungarn

Attila Zoller was the first guitarist who discovered the free jazz and was also called as one of the innovators of modern jazz guitar.

Zoller’s father was a a professional violinist , who taught him classical violin. Zollers started playing guitar professionally with Budapest jazz clubsduring the time of Second World War. In 1948 Vienna, Attilla Zoller formed a jazz group with the accordionist and vibraphonist Vera Auer. Zoller moved to Germany in 1954, where he played with pianist Jutta Hipp, saxophonist Hans Koller and trombonist Albert Mangelsdorff.

Visiting American musicians Oscar Pettiford and Lee Konitz admired Zoller's work and encouraged him to move to the U.S. in 1959 after winning a scholarship to the Lenox School of Jazz. Zoller studied with Jim Hall and roomed with Ornette Coleman and Don Cherry, whose influence sparked Zoller's interest in free jazz.

Zoller also played in drummer Chico Hamilton's group in 1960, with Benny Goodman and with flutist Herbie Mann from 1962-1965. Attila Zoller in 1965, started a free jazz-influenced group with the pianist Don Friedman, and in 1968 co-led a group with Konitz and Mangelsdorff.

Zoller played and recorded with Tony Scott, Stan Getz, Red Norvo, Jimmy Raney, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Shirley Scott, Cal Tjader and many more. Attila Zoller was a renowned teacher and founding president of the Vermont Jazz Center (since 1985). In 1995, Zoller received the New England Foundation for the Arts Achievement Award for his lifelong musical contribution to jazz.

Zoller also designed  some musical instruments; he patented a bi-directional pickup for guitars in 1971 and helped his design with own signature line of guitars with different companies.Later in 1998, January 25 he died in Townshend, Vermont.

Arto is an American guitarist, singer, sound artist, record producer and well known for his distinctive soft voice and an often noisy, a self-taught guitar style. Brian Olewnick described Arto as "studiedly naïve ... sounding like the bastard child of Derek Bailey" as his guitar playing rarely includes actual chords.

Lindsay was much more influenced with sensuous Brazilian music themes as he spent many years in Brazil. Lindsay in the early 1980s, for his particular style of guitar work, was featured in the early recordings of John Lurie's "fake jazz" outfit the Lounge Lizards and the Golden Palominos.

 This group worked to break down distinctions between rock music, pop music, improvisation and avant-garde experimentalism. Lindsay formed the Ambitious Lovers with keyboardist Peter Scherer, after leaving the Lounge Lizards.

In late 1980s and 1990s, Lindsay also composed a number of soundtracks, dance commissions and even continued to dabble in No Wave-influenced projects, most notably with the Arto Lindsay Trio, with Gibbs and Dougie Bowne.

Over the years, Lindsay has lent his musical talents to and collaborated with various artists such as: They Might Be Giants, David Byrne, Laurie Anderson, Marc Ribot, Cibo Matto, Bill Frisell, Animal Collective, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Krisma, Kip Hanrahan, and many more.

Arto Lindsay has appeared in number of films, usually in tie-ins with other artists.he gave a cameo appearance in the Madonna vehicle Desperately Seeking Susan and can be seen playing "skronk" guitar in Downtown 81, a film about the art and music in the East Village featuring Jean-Michel Basquiat and Deborah Harry. Arto also featured in Step Across the Border, a documentary on the musician Fred Frith, directed by Nicolas Humbert and Werner Penzel.

 

An American guitarist and vocalist, who formed the Polvo band in 1990, with Dave Brylawski, Steve Popson, and Eddie Watkins. In 1990, United States, Polvo was influential in the then-thriving math rock. In 1994, Ash Bowie also played as the bassist for Helium.

Ash Bowie started a solo project under the name Libraness, after both the bands broke in 1998 and released the album Yesterday.. and Tomorrow's Shells, which was a collection of his solo recordings( from 1993-2000). After that Ash has been playing as a guitarist for Fan Modine band but hasn’t released any more recordings since then.

The GazettE  is a Japanese visual kei rock band and Aoi is the second guitarist of the GazettE . The band formed in early 2002 and is currently signed to PS Company and King Records. And in May released their first EP, Cockayne Soup. Since then the band went on extensively touring and in 2004-2005 released Gama.
