Bill Harkelroad came back to the popular music industry after a gap of 20 years with his album "We Saw a Bozo Under the Sea" in 2001.
Bill Harkelroad was the guitarist for the band Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band till 1973. After Zoot Horn Rollo left Captain Beefheart and Magic Band, he formed Mallard with many of his band members. Lunar Notes, written by Zoot Horn Rollo reveals there were tensions between the band members involved in Captain Beefheart. This resulted in the split.

Zoot Horn Rollo as he was popularly known was Bill Harleroad and was born in Palmdale, California started playing the guitar while he was young. However, the first instrument he was trained when he was a child was the accordion. Later, the band Mallard was also dissolved and he was out of the popular music scene.
This later years involved working as a manager in a record store and Bill Harkelroad also thought the gitar in Oregon. One of his notable students was Chris Gunn.
Bill Harkelroad has been ranked 62 in the list of 100 greatest guitarists of all time by Rolling Stones in 2003. This was two years after he released the album “We Saw a Bozo Under the Sea”.
