Jørgen Ingmann is a Danish musician and singer born on April 26, 1925 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Jørgen Ingmann first worked with the jazz violinist ‘Svend Asmussen’ and was well-known as a jazz artist in the 1940s and 1950s. Ingmann was highly influenced by an American jazz guitarist ‘Les Paul’. Jørgen Ingmann implemented Paul’s techniques and began exploring the possibilities of multi-track recording by setting up a home studio. He overdubed himself into a one-man band and recorded multiple layers of guitar at his home studio. Ingmann’s recording also included his own percussion and bass playing.
Jørgen Ingmann transformed his stage name to “Jørgen Ingmann and His Guitar” in the late 1950s. In 1961, Ingmann recorded ‘Apache’ (Apache - a classical instrumental written by Jerry Lordan) with his new stage name ‘Jørgen Ingmann and His Guitar’, which reached number four on the chart in Canada and topped number one in United States singles charts for a week.
Jørgen Ingmann performed duo “Grethe og Jørgen Ingmann’ along with his wife Grethe Ingmann, who is also a Danish musician and singer. Jørgen Ingmann and Grethe Ingmann won a song contest “Danish Melodi Grand Prix” in 1963 and represented Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Dansevise” and won the contest. Jørgen Ingmann married Grethe Clemmensen in 1956 and got divorced in 1975.
Jørgen Ingmann’s two albums for Atco Records were reissued on a single packed disc in 2004.
