Joe Satriani is an American guitarist and solo performer. He is also known for his guitar instructions and his rock star guitar students. He was part of the Rolling Stones Mick Jagger’s tour as the lead guitarist and has played with various guitarists like Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, John Petrucci, Yngwie Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert and Patrick Rondat.
Satriani started playing guitar at the age of 14 when he was inspired by the life and death of Jimi Hendrix. When he heard the news of Hendrix death, he was having his football training. He approached his coach and informed him that he would play football no more and would be a guitarist.
Joe Satriani played as the lead guitarist with Mick Jagger’s first solo tour. Satriani later was requested to become the lead guitarist for the legendary band Deep Purple. However, Satriani had to reject the offer due to contract issues.
Before becoming a famous guitarist, Satriani studied music from the jazz guitarist Billy Bauer and the jazz pianist Lennie Tristano. Tristano who was a demanding Jazz pianist made Satriani involve in Jazz music. Satriani soon started teaching guitar. One of his notable guitar student was Steve Vai from Long Island. Later, Steve Vai was one among many to popularize Satriani in almost all his interviews.
After 4 years, Satriani started his music profession by moving to California after which he started teaching again. In California too, Satriani has many notable guitar students like Kirk Hammett of Metallica, Alex Skolnick of the Testament, Rick Hunolt of the band Exodus, David Bryson of Counting Crows, Larry LaLonde of the Primus and the Possessed, Kevin Cadogan of the Third Eye Blind, Phil Kettner of Laaz Rockit and the Charlie Hunter.
Satrianis albums have been instrumental and Vocal. Satriani released his first album “Flying in a Blue Dream” in 1989. After 4 years he released The Extremist. In 1993, Satriani toured Japan with the legendary band Deep Purple which was a major success. However, he did not tour with them again as he had already signed a multi-solo-album deal with Sony.
