Guitarist Tim RiceThe Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP) is delighted to present a unique and exclusive masterclass on Friday 22nd May with legendary lyricist and multi- Grammy and Oscar-winner Sir Tim Rice.

This masterclass is a rare opportunity to hear Sir Tim talk about his life and work and his writing partnerships with composers such as Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and Sir Elton John. ICMP students and staff will perform selected songs from his repertoire with commentary onstage by Sir Tim himself who will also field questions from students.

Sir Tim Rice’s work with composer Andrew Lloyd Webber includes some of the world’s best loved and critically acclaimed musicals including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Evita and the rock-opera Jesus Christ Superstar which constitutes a defining moment in British musical theatre.

Other musical collaborators include Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus of ABBA with whom Sir Tim wrote the musical Chess which produced the hit songs “I know him so well” and “One Night in Bangkok”. His work for the Disney Organisation saw him partnered with Sir Elton John with whom he wrote the hit animated film The Lion King and the stage musical Aida.

Sir Tim’s work has won him numerous awards including 12 Ivor Novello awards, 4 Tonys, 5 Grammys and 3 Oscars. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1999 and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2008.

The ICMP is honored to be welcoming Sir Tim Rice for what will be a unique, impressive and educational masterclass. This event will take place on Friday May 22nd from 7pm to 9pm.
